Bigger Picture

Memorial WOD for Artie Stevens

CrossFitters can be annoying–we post pictures of torn hands, sweat angels, and our workouts. We constantly talk about PRs, our Paleo snacks, and macronutrient counts. I get why non-CrossFitters don’t always like us. But, no matter how annoying we can be with our love for CrossFit, one thing cannot be denied, CrossFitters are a part of an amazing community.

Today, on Giving Tuesday, CrossFitters across Indianapolis are doing a hero WOD for Artie Stevens, who unexpectedly passed away earlier this month. Artie was a staple in the Indiana CrossFit community; he kept many fed with his Artie’s Paleo On The Go at local competitions or with meal drop-offs at boxes all over the city. His presence was great and it was nearly impossible to not know who Artie was. So today, in his honor, we all completed a partner WOD, because Artie loved partner WODs so no one was ever left out, and the workout consisted of his favorite movements in the format of Fight Gone Bad, his first CrossFit workout.

Below is an article featured in the Indy Star that describes his tremendous story, along with a link to the fundraiser for Artie’s family. If you haven’t donated on Giving Tuesday and are looking for a good cause, consider Artie’s wife and children.
