CrossFit Open 18.3…Second Attempt Worse Than The First

Your weekly CrossFit Open update is here:

Workout 18.3

2 rounds for time (14 min cap)

100 double Unders (DUs)

20 Overhead Squats (115#)

100 DUs

12 Ring Muscle-Ups

100 DUs

20 Dumbbel Snatches (50#)

100 DUs

12 Bar Muscle-Ups

472 reps completed on my first attempt. 461 reps complete on my second…that’s not the way it’s supposed to work.

As soon as I completed my first attempt last Friday evening I said, “One and done!” I surpassed my goal of completing one full round, so I was happy. But as the weekend went by, I began to question my strategy and then became fixated on getting 500 reps…all I needed was 28 more reps, which with double unders, is about 30 seconds. Surely I could make up 30 seconds by adjusting my strategy and making it through the muscle-ups faster.

Nope.

Despite the slight disappointment, watching videos of 18.3 on social media was a blast. Workouts like this one are what make the Open so special. Countless people got their first muscle-up or finally got double unders during this workout. There is something about the Open that helps people conquer that one movement that has troubled them for so long.

Here’s a highlight of my lowlight second performance…
